Fatimid Architecture - Masjid Al Jame ul Anwar

This is one of the classic example of Shaan of Aqa Moula Sayedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb TUS. He has achieved major milestone, which cannot even be described. In one of the letters that was written to the Kuwaiti King Sheikh Jabir, Aqa Moula TUS is referred to as someone who was sent to the earth to build Masjids. Indeed, I am amazed, how many masjids have been built under his raza Mubarak and benediction. In America, Canada, Eurpore, Africa, Asia, Autralia, everywhere, Mashallah.

Masjid Al Jame ul Anwar, in Cairo built by Imam Hakim (A.S). This masjid was completed by Imam Hakim (A.S) in 393 A.H. Currently we are in the year 1430, hence the masjid is almost 1140 years old. Amazing aint it. Restoring this masjid was impossible as UNESCO itself had declared it unachievable. But, its nothing when it comes to our Moula TUS :). Once he (TUS) decided to pursue something the zaahir and the baatin come together to help him (TUS).

In 1391 A.H Aqa Moula TUS completed the restoration of Jame-Anwar in just 28 months. The barakaat of restoration was such that it assisted in restoring 4 more masjids: Jame Azher, Jame Lulu, Jame Tuloon and Jame Juyushi.

During the process of construction phenomenal events occurred which were termed as the nine miracles.

1. Water supply to the site was blocked off. But, by the grace of Allah, during the construction, a well was discovered.

2. During the construction process, remnants of old structure emerged and the masjid was rebuilt on the basis of it.

3. An original Fatemi shubbak (window) emerged after 698 years, just as if it was a gift from the Imam.

4. Aqa Moula (TUS) identified Al Mishkat-Fatemiyah from Al Jame ul Aqmar and instructed that its design be used to illuminate Al Jame ul Anwar.

5. A part of a stone inscription with Imam Hakim's name inscribed upon it was excavated.

6. Many Fatemi relics were discovered when a tomb when was shifted from the masjid to another site.

7. A school that had been built within the masjid premises had to be pulled down and as compensation a new school was built on another location within just 110 days.

8. The restoration of this masjid-a gargantuan task, which dissuaded event the UNESCO from undertaking it was miraculously accomplished within a period of 28 months.

9. To commemorate the completion of this masjid, Aqa Moula (TUS) conducted Ashara Mubaraka in Cairo at which 10,000 mumineen gathered from all around the world.

Here are few snaps of the masjid:

Before Restoration

After Restoration

Rasulallah SA has said in a hadith that:
“Whosoever shares in building a Masjid for Allah , even if it is as small as a bird’s nest, Allah (S.W.T.) will build for him a house in Paradise.”
This is the shaan of our Moula TUS. May Allah Subhanahu grant him life till eternity, Amin.

Harvesting Corn :) - Part 2

So to continue the super long tutorial, which started here:

Harvesting Corn Part 1

It was discussed in the above link how the corn with the help of a combine, is harvested, chaffed, thrashed whatever, in the end all that is left are kernels. Isnt that awesome !!! i think it really is, because I have seen back home in India where everything is done manually, it takes forever. Well, its good in a country where so many people need to find vocation too.

Lets continue , the combine is pretty awesome lol for the umpteenth time :) . What was really fascinating about the combine, is the fact that it had a display in the cab, which monitors the corn real-time. It tells what is the moisture content of the corn, the yield per bushel, quality (grade) of corn etc etc. It generates charts displaying the yield per acre in fact per row which was really precise. So heres how the display looked like:

After the combine has collected enough yield, which of course is known by the load in the above mentioned display, its time to dump the yield into a tractor. Not exactly a tractor but more like a hauler. Like this:

In one of the pic, you will observe that the tractor follows the combine. The tractor dumps the corn (just the kernels) into a truck which then transports it to the storage facility. Lol I am sure you have seen trucks, but wth this is how a truck looks like lol..

Now the kernel rich in moisture, needs to be stored and duh !!! needs to be dried. Yes Genius !!! it needs to be shifted to a dryer. I am sure most you have seen this high-tower building in middle of corn-fields and never knew what it was. But your ignorance ends here lol, thats how I felt :) ...So the kernels are dumped into this underground bunker like ditch:

From here with the help of this conveyor belt that are moved to a high temperature dryers, where the moisture is removed and kept for storage. The moisture is constantly monitored to make sure the kernels don't rot. here is the conveyor belt:

The kernels through the conveyor belts are transferred to these huge dryers:

And we got the chance to climb to the top of the dryer. It was awesome a real exercise. If I was a farmer, I probably would have never had to work out. Few of the views from the top:

Me @ Templar Church, London

Well for starters, this was the only thing I thought was worth visiting in London !!!!

Yes, this is the same church where Sir Isaac Newton is laid to rest. Lol thats what I thought, after reading the Da Vinci Code. And, that is why I dragged my whole family to this place, right in the heart of London. Too bad it was some holiday and the church was closed. Nonetheless I was able to take this pic for my memoirs :P .

And, I think Newton, is not buried here. In fact no Templar Knights were buried here, it only has their effigies. So whatever be the history behind it, I think it was cool. I like the area surrounding the church, the narrow alleys, and medieval architecture reminded me of Uppali (upper) Pole and Nichali (Lower) Pole area of my native town Banswara, Lol, I know its a bizarre comparison, but that's how I felt.

Here is the pic of the church as taken from this site, to prove to you naysayers that I am not bluffing and I really went to the Templar Church, lol I wonder how many of you really care if I am lying or not, but anyways, this adds to my credibility. The site is
http://www.sacred-destinations.com/england/london-temple-church and it has pretty cool pictures.

So here is the pic, in which the Knight Templar of the age, keeper of the Holy Grail graced the Templar church. Sorry, I went a little overboard, but pun intended, if Dan Brown could create a fiction then why not I, and of course in my creation who else would be the protagonist but me :). Don't you think the church seems radiant now, as its self-proclaimed custodian has glorified it finally.

Harvesting Corn :)

This post might give you a brief idea of how technology has played such an important role in Corn harvesting. Technology in farming is definitely a purposive use of technology, unlike this Toilet Paper News-Feeder lol :)

Sorry for the digression from the main topic, I guess this is something which will never change when I write. Okay coming back to the subject, Last Saturday, I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to go harvesting on a friends farm in Raonoke, IL. Best of luck trying to pronounce Raonoke :). Well It was a real learning experience, reminded me of Modern Marvel show on History Channel. Lol just shows how much I watch that show and beat this coincidence, I am watching it at the moment too, the show is about cold-cuts, lol I wouldnt want to go into more details as it would definitely upset my vegan readers :)

So coming back to harvesting corn, for this post we will assume that the corn is all grown, and ready to be harvested. Duh !!! the topic says harvesting too :P

This is how a fully-ripe-corn-ready-to-be-plucked looks like:

Once ready to be plucked, the field which was uniformly seeded may look like this:

You can see in the pic above, how the farm is uniformly seeded, its perfectly aligned for a combine to work its magic. Yes a Combine, i would consider it to be a Mechanical Engineering marvel for real. It works like a charm, it thrashes, removes the husk , the chafe, separates the kernels from the corn. What you have in the end are just kernels :). Here is a brief youtube video on how a Combine works.

And here is a pic of the combine, I rode in. Actually I got a chance to drive it too, And also, I rode it in on the highway. You must have imagined by now the front part of the combine i think its called the thrasher is definitely removed. Lol otherwise you might end up thrashing the road sign posts, other cars etc etc on the road. This was the view from atop a combine:

This is how our combine looked like:

Here is how a field looked like before we cleared it with a combine:

After running the combine:

To be Continued ....I am tired of writing and even more sick of my slow internet connection......but hold on there is more ...

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom Sharabi :P video and lyrics :)

Another song sung by Munni Begum Ji at her concert.

na haram mein, na sukoon milta hai but'khane mein
chain milta hai to saqi tere maikhane mein
jhoom barabar jhoom sharabi jhoom barabar jhoom
jhoom barabar jhoom sharabi jhoom barabar jhoom

kali ghata hai mast faza hai
kali ghata hai mast faza hai jaam utha ker ghoom ghoom ghoom
jhoom barabar jhoom sharabi jhoom barabar jhoom

aaj angoor ki beti se mohabbat ker le
shaikh sabih ki nasihat se baghawat ker le
iski beti ne utha rakhi hai sir per dunya
yeh to acha hoa angoor ko beta na hoa

kam se kam surat e saqi ka nazara ker le
aa ke maikhaane mein jeene ka sahara ker le
aankh milte he jawani ka maza aaye ga
kuch to angoor ke pani ka maza aaye ga

her nazar apni basad shouq gulabi ker de
itni pee le ke zamane ko sharabi ker de
jaam jab samne aaye to mukarna kaisa
baat jab peene ki aa jaye to darna kaisa

dhoom machi hai maikhaane mein
dhoom machi hai maikhaane mein tu bhi macha le dhoom dhoom dhoom
jhoom barabar jhoom sharabi jhoom barabar jhoom
jhoom barabar jhoom sharabi jhoom barabar jhoom

iske peete he tabiyat mein rawani aaye
isko burha bhi jo pee le to jawani aaye
peene wale tujhe aa jaye ga peene ka maza
iske her ghoont mein poshida he peene ka maza

baat to jab hai tu mai ka parastar bane
tu nazar dal de jis per wohi maikhuwar bane
mousam e gul mein to peene ka maza aata hai
peene walo ko jeene ka maza aata hai

jaan utha le mo se laga le
jaan utha le mo se laga le mo se laga ke choom choom choom
jhoom barabar jhoom sharabi jhoom barabar jhoom
jhoom barabar jhoom sharabi jhoom barabar jhoom

jo bhi aata hai yahan pee ke machal jata hai
jab nazar saqi ki parti hai sambhal jata hai
aayi idher jhoom ke saqi ka leke naam utha
daikh wo abr utha tu bhi zara jaam uthaa

is qadar pe le ke rug rug mein suroor aa jaye
qasrat e mai se chehre pe noor aa jaye
iske her qatre mein nazan hai nihan darya-dili
iske peene se ata hoti hai ik zinda dili

Do Boondein Sawan Ki by Khayyam sung by Asha Bhosle

This was the ghazal Munni Begum ji sang...originally it was sung by Asha Bhosle. Really sad !!!

Lyrics

Do boondein sawaan ki,

ek saagar ki peeth pe tapkey
aur moti ban jaaye
duji gandey jal mein
gir kar apna aap gavaye
kisko mujrim samjhey koyee,
kisko dosh lagayee

Do Boondein Saaawan ki

do kaliyaan gulshan ki
ek sehrey key beech gundhey
aur man hi man itraye
ek arthi ki bheth charey
aur dhooli mein mil jaaaye
kisko mujrim samjhey koyee,
kisko dosh lagayee

Do kaliyaan gulshan ki

Do Sakhiyaaan bachpan ki
ek singhasan per bethey
aur roopmati kehlaaye
duji apney roop key kaaraan
galiyon mein beek jaaye
kisko mujrim samjhey koyeee
kisko dosh lagaye

Do Saakhiyan bachpan kiiii

Memorable Quotes from "Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard " by Kiran Desai - 3

"They refuse to have their liquor licenses revoked, and also we have received threats from all the surrounding towns saying if we revoke licenses, the monkeys will simply shift their focus and carry on being a nuisance in their vicinity."

Meanwhile, the police were luckier than the army men, for it had been generally agreed upon that they were incapable of taking an active part in something on such a great scale as this and hand been given the job of preparing the nets that were to be used to catch the monkeys.

"Arre chottu,' they called to the tea boy.' arre, over here,' to the sweet-potato seller, the peanut man and the cold-drink cart. Thus they made the most of this time and were content.

In the matter of few days' time, the Hungry Hop boy had been demoted from a life of self-imposed imprisonment to one of family-enforced detainment and he felt as if the his pride were being overlooked and insulted.

But Sampath sat in the guava tree, encased in absolute stillness like a forest captured within a quiet moment of amber.

There were ways of thinking about darkness. He could steel himself against it, Sampath thought, close his eyes tight, wrap himself up in his quilt. Or he could let all it's whisperings, all it's shades of violet, float into him. This impersonal darkness could be comforting as no human attention ever was.

He picked one. Perfect Buddha shape. Mulling on it's inside, unconcerned with the world.... beautiful, distant fruit, growing softer as the days went by, as the nights passed on; beautiful fruit filled with an undiscovered constellation of young stars.

Me @ Starved Rock State Forest Reserve

This is me at the place mentioned in the subject lol too lazy to type the entire name again :) .....well i guess i should have typed it ..the explanation is def longer than the name :)

whatever, so the history made here was ..that Hatim visited this place lol nooooo..I still have time to make history ...i hope its before I become one :P ....anyways history here is in the name itself ...two Indian ( i mean native American-Indian not South Asian Indian) tribes were fighting and one of the weaker tribe took refuge at the top of a hill. The stronger tribe took over the bottom of the hill ( a huge rock ) and eventually the tribe at the top the minnows :( couldnt receive food and consequently they starved to death. Hence the name Starved Rock State Forest.

Its a beautiful place, an idle place for hiking miles and miles of trail ...you will burn enough calories trust me ...and later on you can fish and add some healthy proteins :P ...you can see how beautiful the tree is :) ..i will stop there :)

Old State Capitol, Springfield, IL

This is me and my mommy dearest at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, IL :) ....Yes this place had the history related to Abraham Lincoln. Also this is the place where the current President Obama started his journey to the White House :) ..No I am not starting any journey...I am just posing :P..it is apparent from the fact that the photo doesn't even capture the entire building :P

The most optimized (fastest) way to make Butter Chicken :p

Okay,

This is for people on the go, who no matter how busy they are , still crave for butter chicken :p or malayee chicken.

As the name suggest it consists of butter so not entirely healthy yeah that's all the details I have with nutritional value :)

With optimized way I meant multi-tasking or quicker way to make it. please note that I don't list any fancy spices because it takes time to
arrange them :)

This is how you start:
take a pressure cooker, shown in the pic below.
heat some oil any kind.
while the oil is heating, defrost the chicken. don't defrost is too much.
while the oil heating and chicken is defrosting, don't sit idle lol :)
cut the onion .... two fine pieces ... and if u r quick at cutting the onions, watch the oil in the meantime :) ( key is heat the oil on low flame, optimization is good but not the extent of risking ones life :))
so now while the oil is hot enough, and onions finely cut , next step duhh :) fry the onions ... watch out for hot oil splashing ...hot oil mixes with water(moisture in the onions) .. fatal combination :)
While th onions are frying, and chicken defrosting.... cut green peppers ... they r not fancy and they are imp :) for taste ...
now fry the green chillies with the onions and let them fry till the onions turn golden brown lol ... don't think too hard brown onions are enuf lol ;)not black ... If they turn black u r done !!! u r not meant for Optimized Cooking :0... ur better off eating top ramen noodles :p

while the onions-chillies are frying take out the chicken (make sure it's boneless ) and cut it into medium pieces - not so big not so small :) ...

now add some butter to the mix of oil and onions and chillies and ginger-garlic paste - thanks to innovation in cooking u get the paste ready-made ... u don't have to crush the garlic or ginger ...;)

now the most important part ... add very little turmeric ... I mean it veryyyyy little ... there is no coming back if u put in too much of it ... u r done !!!! it will be all over ur mouth ... I mean the taste of turmeric lol... there is no fixing this fiasco !!!

then add a lil red chillies and garam masala :) ... if u add just garam masala  it's enuf ... but I add more coze I'm a gourmet chef lol ... just kidding ... I like the aroma of the spices :p .. i get a kick out of it :p

once the mix is all ready and u have used the correct amount... let it simmer for a while ...let it simmer till u smell the aroma :p mhmmmm

once u can smell that ... put in the murgi lol aka chicken :p ...mix it nicely and let it cook for 5-6 minutes ...... if u think it's too dry ... then add some water ... and taste it ...

Dang it we forgot the most imp -salt lol ... add it anytime .... as per taste duhhh :)

now add some more butter :p to add some more fat + ofcourse the fat oozing from the chicken ... constitute the cream- malayee in Hindi-language spoken in India-birth place of butter chicken lol :p

now if u want cut some tomatoes and add it to mix aka hodge-podge by now lol... let it cook ... keep pressing the chicken ... not with ur finger duhhh ... but with a fork to see of it is raw or cooked lol :p

if it's not then let it cook for a while ... sabar (patience) is imp :p... in the meantime heat some naan (or pita bread)... and if u still have time ... then yeah start cleaning up lol ... because it's YOU who have to do everything :p ... at least I don't let anyone enter the kitchen when I cook :p ..

last time I was able to cook it in 20min ...if you can cook it in less than that ..then urs will become the "The most optimized way to make Butter Chicken" lol ..... and the pic shows how it looks like ...if u pressurize the while mix with chicken ... it can get done in 15 minutes :p really ... I don't know I never tried :) I used the pressure cooker because that's the only decent multi-purpose utensil I have :p

for, measurment....u might want to check here: .....
http://indianfood.about.com/od/chickendishes/r/butterchicken.htm

though i believe, that the only best way to get a good at cooking...is by trying ur own way first and make improvements ....you will also learn ways to fix your fiasco's :) like add yogurt ( plain ofcourse :) ) if in case its too spicy ....or add lemon if its too salty ..but yeah with turmeric there is no fix !!!!!!! i meant it ...so dont even try playing with it :P ..have fun cooking and eating and dont forget feeding :P

Amr Diab's Sadakany Khalaas :)

Beautiful song ..<3 the crescendo .." allaaaaah yaahhh salaaaaam , faalik aaayunik,,,,ahle kalaaaam"

Trip to Grand Canyon :)

Grand Canyon as seen from the plane above.

Some random visitor said: "Grand Canyon needs no man." lol for once i didnt understand, only later did I realize that it meant it needs no man to describe its awesomeness. :). After a while I thought it more philosophically and I also deduced that it could also mean 'no man' can create or destroy the Grand Canyon lol. The guy seemed literary, so I approached him to ask what he did for living and he was actually an author lol :). Talk of coincidence, recently he was in India in Bombay precisely to author a book on "xes" in religion. Lol i dont want to use the correct word, otherwise Google would bombard my visitors with "not so nice " ads ;) . Not to be offensive to Google, after all they are helping me, it was actually a credit to how good AdWords are ;) yeah right !!! I am not sucking up ever ;)

Grand Canyon - a place which the native Indians thought was the center of the Universe :) or whatever lol !!!

Thats what a might river (Colorado) can do - cut through rocks forming crevices in this case a canyon lol A Grand Canyon infact :)

Bollywood's Classic Steal part #2

Here the song "Ya Ghali" too was nicely copied by our Bollywood's super duper uber music directors.

Original version by Guitara:

Copied version "Ya Ali" :) from the movie Gangster. I think the copied version sounds better. Good Job Bollywood :) when you copy you atleast make it better unlike the other which made the imitated version worse ;)

Bollywood's Classic Steal part #1

Amr Diab's Hit Tamally Maak was so nicely copied by our own Anu Malik :) who has claimed a billion times that he apparently is 'original' :)

Original Version

To give some credit this version includes some Arabic verses, which is even worse. Our very own 'original' version:

Talaul Badro Alayinna - Lyrics with Translation :)

This is the song sang by the people of Medina when Rasulallah SA arrived for the first time from Mecca.

Tala'al-Badru 'alayna,
min thaniyyatil-Wada'
wajaba al-shukru 'alayna,
ma da'a lillahi da'

O the White Moon rose over us
From the Valley of Wada'
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Where the call is to Allah

Ayyuha al-mab'uthu fina
ji'ta bi-al-amri al-muta'
Ji'ta sharrafta al-Madinah
marhaban ya khayra da'

O you who were raised amongst us
coming with a work to be obeyed
You have brought to this city nobleness
Welcome! best call to God's way

Agheb-Agheb by Amr Diab :)

Love this song but I dont know the meaning yet :( ...and I dunno how the video relates to the lyrics..!!!! the video is good nonetheless :)

translation copied from somewhere :

Been a while and still I - asking about her

How is she living and what she is up to!

They said that she cant forget and still living in pain

I will leave and will keep away hoping she would forget about me

It would help me to forget if she forgot about me

As long as she remembers me i will still remember her

Yeah God, thats why I still ask about her

What exactly can I hide, my situation is painful than hers

Memorable Quotes from "Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard " by Kiran Desai - 2

He was cross and grumpy. The guava was cool and green and calm-looking. He stared at the fruit, wished he could absorb all it's coolness, all it's quiet and stillness into him.

He hit is forehead with the flat of his palm, for drama has a way of overriding ths embarrassment of a situation that should be privately experienced.

'And you, sir, that secret oil you got from the doctor in Side Gully. Clearly, it is not working. Try a good massage with mustard oil and your hair will sprout as thick and as plentiful as grass in Cherrapunjee rain.

Post office clerk climbs tree. Fleeing duties at the Shahkot post office, a clerk has been reported to have settled in a large guava tree. According to popular speculations, he is one or an unusual spiritual nature, his child-like ways being coupled with unfathomable wisdom.

Prices had risen so high, nobody would buy the scraggy chickens sitting in the cages outside the meat shop. Finally the poor butcher had to eat them himself, and after the last one, he was forced to turn vegetarian like the rest of the town.

Not one truthful politiciAn in the whole country. Yes our politicians are thieves, each one answerable to the prime minister, who is the biggest thief of them all. Look how well he's doing. With each new photograph he is fatter than before.

Memorable Quotes from "Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard " by Kiran Desai - 1

well you know, liberation, as I comprehend it, comes from freeing yourself from the tawdry grasp of superstition. This is not simple matter, you understand, for it is embroiled in historical issues, in issues of poverty and illiteracy.

She was producing meals so intricate, they were cooked sometimes with a hundred ingredients, balanced precariously within a complicated and delicate mesh of spices - marvelous triumphs of the complex and delicate seasonings.

Isn't he the same person,' said Mr.Chawla,'who set baits filled with sleeping pills to contain the problem at Ranchi? They did not catch even a single monkey. These animals are very street-smart.They have learned all sort of tricks in the bazaar.'

The monkeys had not eaten a bite of the sleeping-pill-laden food; hungry street urchins had gobbled it down instead, and then promptly fallen into a deep sleep that lasted, in one case, up to 48 hours.

Turning sour, his stomach revolted and fired up in a terrible indigestion as if it contained a rolling mass of serpents, venomous and hissing in volcanic heat.

The cook is left over from the Raj, sir, and wanted to make you cutlets with caramel custard. I said:"Nothing doing. What did we get rid of British for? To continue eating cutlets and custard?"

"Yeh Jo Halka Halka suroor hein" by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Lyrics and Video :)

Arabic 101 - Nouns and Adjectives subtlety in Arabic :)

Well after being able to read and write Arabic for close to hmm 16
years, I finally made this discovery:

That in Arabic unlike English a noun preceeds it's adjective. For
example in English you would say : a good boy - here the noun is: boy
and adjective is; good.

While in Arabic you would say: waladoon hasanatoon ... waladoon(boy)
and hasanatoon(good).

Well I'm in now way to judge the quality of deeni (religious) islamic
education in our Madresas (schools- Islamic), but I feel it lacks.
While teaching us to read and write arabic they could have taught us
how to speak and converse in Arabic.

I dunno if the other sect's madresas teach them to speak Arabic and
it's meaning. Maybe that's why even after boasting to have the second
largest Muslim population in the world, India can hardly claim to have
even 1% of entire World's Arabic speaker. And whoever among us
(Indians) has a slight mastery over this language, is hailed as a
scholar.

I do agree, that to gain mastery you have to be able to converse in
the first place, which is not possible in India. Too bad, similar is
the case for Indians residing in Arab speaking countries. The
education ministries (vazaratul tarabiyaah - here too adjective comes
before noun) made in mandatory for aliens (ajaanibs) but
unfortunately ,the foreigners never conversed in Arabic. And
eventually never gained the prowess over the language.

A tragedy for the language of the Holy Quran.
